Equally as fascinating as the future prospects offered by a real estate investment here is the historical perspective of the location: the Renaissance period discovered Nature and in particular the lake too as a backdrop for its stately representation and noble self-portrayal. This occurrence on the shores of the idyllic Lake Wörthersee was thanks to Baron Bartholomäus Khevenhüller. He had Schloss Velden built between 1590 and 1603 as a retreat for his old-age, and it was to become the social epicentre of his time. In 1762 fire destroyed large sections of the original three-storey Renaissance structure with four striking polygonal corner towers.
After having been purchased by a Viennese industrialist, the principal building was restored following the original plans, converted to a Neo-Renaissance-style chateau hotel and since then has been considered a true jewel of the architecture of Lake Wörthersee. |
