Schloss Velden had since 1952 been the setting of numerous films; the most famous of these was the TV series ˜A Castle on Lake Wörthersee˜, with 34 episodes synchronised in seven languages and broadcast in 40 countries. Until autumn 1990, Velden’s chateau hotel was run as the most prestigious house on the lake. Afterwards it was purchased by the German billionaire Gunter Sachs for 12 million euros, who invested almost twice the sum in renovating and upgrading it.
